2016 Irish Open - Daniel Wilson Wins

The 2016 edition of the Irish Open went into the books the other day and the player who walked away with the top prize of €150k was Daniel Wilson. Wilson made no deals on his way to the top, and he defeated Michael Conaty heads-up. A total of 802 players took part in the poker tournament. Conaty's reward was a rather decent €85k. Thomas Soederstroem finished 3rd for €52k and Vegard Ropstad ended up in 4th, for a €36.5k reward.
The last day of action (the 4th of the tournament) saw some 14 players return to the tables, looking to play down to a winner. It only took the remaining field about 30 minutes to play down to the final table bubble, but there the action froze up and it took more than an hour for the ice to finally crack. Eventually, Peter Eichhardt and Michael Conaty (the eventual runner-up) got their chips into the middle, with both of them holding straights. Conaty's was the winner though, and thus the 9-handed final table was set.

This was when Wilson, the eventual winner, got going, scoring the first of what would be two double eliminations at the final table. The victims of his move were Igor Arkhipov and Michael Rossiter. Brian Nolan was the one who followed the two to the rail after about 70 minutes. Only a couple of minutes after Nolan's elimination, another pair of players hit the rail in the second double elimination of the final table: the ones who busted this time were Petr Vejmelka and David Costello. The responsible for this elimination was Michael Conaty, whose stack-boost carried him through all the way to 2nd place.
