741 Players Show up for First Day 1 Flight of 2015 WSOP Main Event

The Main Event of the
2015 WSOP (and let's face it: of the entire poker year) has kicked off with a Day 1 flight that saw some 741 players belly up to the tables. Given how everyone is looking to get going as late as possible, the relatively low player-yield didn't exactly come as a surprise. Still, seeing how 771 players had played in the first day 1 flight of last year's Main Event, it might be considered something of a less-than-ideal start.
The player who finished the day with the largest stack was William Kakon: he had some 152.3k chips bagged. Gjergj Sinishtaj finished second with 148.1k chips and Alex Tran ended up in 3rd with 142.7k.
Always rife with professional players, the Main Event always has some of these "name" players hovering about at the top of its provisional rankings and this time was no exception. Dario Sammartino finished with a more than decent stack of 129.8k chips. Fedor Holz managed to climb above the 100k mark as well, while John Monnette finished with 98.7, still in a very good position.

While failing to make it to the top of the pops, several other "name" competitors managed to survive the treacherous waters of Day 1A. Kevin Shaffel and Mike Matusow finished with large stacks, while Ashton Griffin and Jonathan Duhamel managed to have their Day 2 tickets punched as well. Barry Shulman joined the survivors too.
Erik Seidel on the other hand fell, together with Andy Bloch, Josh Arieh and Billy Baxter: the Big Dance is over for good for these guys this year.
