A Closer Look at the 2012 WSOP Main Event Final Tablists – Part 2

The October Nine has finally been reached and the Americans have secured a truly dominating presence at the final table of the biggest live poker tournament of the year: save for a lone Hungarian currently in second place, there will only be Americans bellying up to the final table come November. It is now time to take a closer look at the surviving contestants.
4th on the still provisional chip leader board is Russell Thomas of Hartford, Connecticut. The 24 year old started playing online in college. He played in the Main Event in 2011, finishing in the money, in 248th place. This year, he has obviously improved on that performance. Being guaranteed a minimum cash of $754,798, he already knows this haul will be the largest one of his poker career.

Steven Gee is the oldest member of the October Nine and at 57 he is no stranger to the green felt. As a matter of fact, he played professionally during his 20s when he went broke and was eventually forced to find a regular job and regular life. He returned to professional poker a few years ago and indeed, the success that had eluded him in the past finally found him. In 2012, he won his first WSOP bracelet, an achievement which he admittedly never really hopes to even be able to match. 5th in chips at the Main Event final table, he now has the perfect opportunity to top it though. Steven Gee has about $1.2 million in live tournament profits.

The shortest stack of the October Nine, Jeremy Ausmus isn’t a new face on the professional tournament circuit either. The 32 year old has more than $1 million in tournament winnings. Having made the October Nine is by far the biggest achievement of his poker career thus far, and the money he already has locked up will indeed be his largest cash too.
Having graduated from Colorado State University, Ausmus now lives in Las Vegas where he plays poker professionally.
