A Closer Look at the WSOP 2013 Schedule

The WSOP will return to the center of the poker world in about a month, and what a changed and thoroughly improved world it is: a year ago, it looked like it would take forever for the first legal real money online poker hand to be dealt in the US and now we can already say that milestone is behind us. Like pretty much everything around us, the
WSOP aims to improve on its last season, and what better way is there to improve than by adding new events and more action.
The 44th edition of the
World Series of Poker will thus turn into a 62-event affair. Last year, there were 61 events, but this year, there will be a combined 74 opportunities for players to walk away with some WSOP gold. Does this actually dilute the value of WSOP jewelry? This year, 5 players have already picked up their bracelets. 62 more will do so this summer and the WSOPE will add 7 more bracelets to the tally.
This year’s Series will kick off on May 29 (and yes that is this month indeed) with the traditional $500 Casino Employees event. Later that day, the first open event will get going as well: the $5k
NL Holdem 8-Handed event. This is one of the new events the organizers have slipped into the schedule, and poker players are already looking forward to it. The introduction of this event is obviously a move on the part of the WSOP officials to keep up with the changing times, which have pretty much rendered 10-handed poker obsolete, and appear to be doing the same with the 9-handed variant of the game.
The first small buy-in NL Holdem event kicks off on May 30. The $25k NL Holdem 6-handed event will be back, and instead of the Big One for One Drop, the organizers have added the $111,111 One Drop High Roller NL Holdem Event.
