Season 8 of the European Poker Tour was one where German domination became evident. Up until the Prague stop of the tour, two Germans had finished with wins in two of the Main Events of the season, and in Prague, a third one joined them: Martin Finger took down the Season 8 Prague title, battling his way through a 722 player field, and taking down a €720k prize when all was said and done.
After his 2011 win, Finger melded into the background a little, but he still kept cashing in various live poker events world-over through 2012. In 2013, he shot into the limelight again, thanks in part to his first ever WSOP bracelet victory. In event #21 of the
2013 WSOP, Finger defeated a high-profile final table which included players like Matt Stout and David Pham to claim the title. The one he disposed of heads-up was none other than Stout. The first place prize in that tournament was $506.7k, much less than his previous
EPT haul, but it was a handsome reward nonetheless. He then used some of his WSOP prize-money to buy his way into the $111,111 One Drop High Roller, where he fell in 14th place, but having clinched a $251.5k prize, he managed to squeeze a profit out of the tournament nonetheless.
At this season’s EPT London, he found success yet again: he won the £50k Super High Roller, taking down his biggest single prize, a £821k reward.
The Prague winner of Season 9 was Ramzi Jelassi. Jelassi is the current reigning champion of the event, and the freshest EPT Prague winner, which may be a tad contradictory in his case, because a newcomer to the game he definitely isn’t. Jelassi outlasted a starting field of 864 players to take down the title. He picked up a €835k prize for his efforts.
