A Second Look at the 2013 WSOP November Nine – Part 1

The November Nine has been set yesterday as the Main Event played down to its final table. The makeup of the November Nine turned out to be a rather accurate reflection of the overall WSOP status quo. Of the 9 final tablists, 5 are from the US, one from Canada, one from Israel, one from the Netherlands and one from France. The US contingent is made up of Mark Newhouse, Ryan Riess, the chip leader: JC Tran, Jay Farber and David Benefield.
Tran, the current mathematical favorite to go all the way, is a two-time bracelet winner who also has 44 WSOP cashes to his name, so he has experience on his side as well as the mathematical odds. By far the most decorated player at this year’s final table, Tran said it would indeed be a nice exclamation point at the end of a decade of poker-playing on his part if he could indeed win the Big Dance.

Obviously well-versed in odds and starting out with an advantage of over 8 million chips over his nearest adversary, Tran is well aware that he is not a huge favorite at this point, even though having the chip lead is indeed a nice position for him to be in. He also said that he was going to focus on mixing up his game as reviewing the hands thus far played at the WSOP will definitely change the status quo come November. As far as the next couple of months are concerned, he said he was going to just relax and steer clear of poker as much as possible, spending some much-needed quality time with his family. As the final showdown draws near though, he definitely plans on reviewing some video of his opponents in action.
