A Second Look at the 2013 WSOP November Nine – Part 7

Having covered players sitting in seats #1,# 2 and #3 at the 2013 WSOP’s November Nine showdown, it is now time to take a second look at Ryan Riess, he who will be sitting in #4.
The East Lansing, Michigan native is 23-years-old and as such, he will be the youngest player at the final table. Riess, who currently lives in Las Vegas, is also one of the least experienced players. He jumped into the poker action in 2012, using the WSOP Circuit as his springboard. During the 2012-2013 season though, he already showed signs of potential.
In October, 2012, he finished second in the WSOP-C Horseshoe Hammond Main Event, falling to Josh Williams heads-up and collecting a $239k prize for his efforts. That accomplishment certainly put him on the map. He later confirmed his perpetual contender status, by finishing in the money in no fewer than 9 more WSOP-C events, of which 3 were final table presences.

This year’s WSOP was Riess’ first Series, but he managed to reach the money in no fewer than 3 events before he made the final table of the big one. In event #6, the $1.5k Millionaire Maker, he finished 110th, picking up a $7.2k prize. Then, in event #30, a $1k NL Holdem affair, he finished 11th, for $20k. In event #49, the $1.5k NL Holdem one, he fell 139th, picking up a $3.2k reward. Although his actual results weren’t too impressive from a financial perspective, they were nonetheless quite impressive in technical terms and they certainly allowed him to pick up some much-needed experience for the Main Event. He will start the November Nine showdown with slightly less than 4 million chips, which makes him 5th. He will have 3 short-stacks on his right and three large stacks on his left – not the best position to be in.
