Alexey Rybin Wins WPT Merit Cyprus Classic

The 6th and final day of the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic’s Main Event saw a winner emerge. Start of the day chip leader Alexey Rybin took advantage of his large stack-status to bully his way into the top spot. For Rybin, the stakes were indeed high on the final day, because as a businessman, he chose to invest his time into the
poker tournament, instead of an important meeting taking place in Monte Carlo. In the end however, he managed to make ends meet by winning and taking down the $258k top prize, together with the WPT Championship seat worth an additional $25k. He made no deals on his way to the top either.
At the beginning of the Day 6 action, Rybin chose to keep out of the way of the other players as they battled it out. The first player to bite the dust was Pierre Sayegh from Lebanon, knocked out by his compatriot, Albert Daher. Sayegh had an Ac, 9c against Daher’s pocket 7s on a board which had three Js.
Sergey Rybachenko managed to take down a big pot early, from Daher, but he gave it all back shortly afterward. Eventually, the most experienced member of the Russian contingent faded away in 5th place, picking up a $5.6k prize.
He was followed to the rail in 4th place by Kayhan Tugrul from Turkey, who ended up taking home $75.6k for his efforts.
Andrei Nikonov was the one who bit the dust next, in 3rd place, giving the eventual winner a huge boost on his way out and becoming the first player to break above the $100k barrier.
The heads-up action started out with the Russian taking a massive pot off Daher. Daher then doubled up twice, but it was still not enough to draw even. Eventually, Rybin cornered him and put him out if his misery.
