All online poker regulars know that when landing a monster, one is never more than a heartbeat away from a bad beat. Beat beats are especially nasty since they usually claim the entire stack of the victim, as extreme bad beats are quite impossible to get away from. Of course, when there’s a massive reward for suffering a bad beat, things take a different turn. Bad beat jackpots are meant to reward players who get something truly big busted like at least a high quad. Americas Cardroom rewards those who lose on four 8s or better. In case this highly unlikely event does happen, the winner of the hand gets 20% of the jackpot. The loser gets 30% and 10% of the haul goes to the other players at the table.
A massive 30% goes to seed the next jackpot. Indeed, if two such bad beats happen one after the other, the winner of the second jackpot needs to get something too, that’s what that 30% is aiming to secure.

10% of the jackpot ends up in possession of the house. In order to qualify for a payout, those at the table need to have played at least one hand in which they make a contribution to the bad beat jackpot. The bad beat jackpot can only be taken down at the special BBJ tables, where extra contributions are made towards it. In order for the bad beat jackpot to be awarded, both the winner and the loser of the hand have to use both their hole-cards in the hand. If there are two qualifying losing hands, the jackpot goes to the two highest hands. Hands have to be shown down after the river card.
