The final day of the second event of the 2011 WSOP-E, the $1,090 NL Holdem event, lasted for just over 7 hours, at the end of which, Andrew Hinrichsen of Australia emerged with the win, successfully denying Roberto Romanello’s Triple Crown bid. The win brought Hinrichsen a WSOP bracelet, as well as a prize of €150k.
Hinrichsen began the day in a more than decent position: although Gianluca Speranza, the chip leader, was way ahead of him, he was second in chips. Speranza played well too: he used his large stack to bully people around and to score the first elimination of the 9-handed final table. Gregory Lejolivet was his first victim. He then pushed out Eric Baudry in 6th place to grab around half of all chips in play at the beginning of 5-handed action.
Roberto Romanello started the final day of the tournament with a pompous goal: to become the 5th player to secure poker’s Triple Crown by winning the event. Things didn’t go as planned for the Welshman though, as he found himself all-in, holding A,2 against the A,K of Bernard Guigon. Needless to say, he failed to improve and he busted out in 5th place, taking home €37.8k for his efforts.
Guigon couldn’t enjoy the fruits of his deed for long though: he was the next to bite the dust, and the field was down to the final 3.
Tarcisio Bruno was eliminated in third, and the heads-up bout between Hinrichsen and Speranza began.
Hinrichsen got lucky a couple of times to bounce back into contention and eventually he was able to use that momentum to close out the deal. The final hand of the event saw his A,K triumph, thanks to his superior kicker.
Event #3, the $5,300 PLO one played down to its final table. Sam Trickett clinched the lead in that one heading into the final straight. Steve Billirakis and Ramzi Jelassi made the final table too.
