Another Chip-related Cheating Scandal?

In a poker tournament, he who controls the chips controls the flow of the action. Chips are indeed lifeblood for tournament players, and as such, they represent a great entry-point for all sorts of fraud. Not even a month ago, a player chose to introduce counterfeit chips into the first event of the Borgata Winter Poker Open to gain an edge. The other day, another player attempted to remove chips from a major event – apparently after he had won it.
The player in question is three-time WSOP-C ring winner Chan Pelton, and the poker tournament was the $1,125 NL Holdem one (#9 of the stop).
According to Jess Welman of the WSOP, after the above said event wrapped up, the organizers noticed that chips had been removed from the set used for the tournament.

Pelton won the event, besting a starting field of 181 players and he took down the top prize of $47k, as well as the ring. Needless to say, his rewards got frozen pending the end of the investigation. Why he got greedy with the chips following his victory isn’t entirely clear at this point. Pelton said he only took the T25k chip as a souvenir, but some of the officials said he may have done it to put it to use in the upcoming Main Event.
The victory was Pelton’s 3rd on the circuit. His second one came about a week earlier, when he took down the $365 PLO Eight or Better event, and the two wins turned him into a favorite for the Casino Championship, which would’ve given him a seat in this year’s National Championship. All that is obviously in limbo now. It’s not all lost for him though: according to Welman, the Casino Championship standings will not be finalized until the investigation draws its conclusions in regards to the Chan Pelton chip-pilfering scandal.
