Who is the most successful high stakes cash game player of the year so far? Obviously, it’s Patrik Antonius. Besides his other cash game achievements, he seems to be in firm control of the challenge series he’s currently involved in with the New Jersey wonderkid, Tom Dwan.
In the latest installment of the PLO Omaha war the two have been waging for a while now, Antonius managed to extend his already considerable lead.

The two have been finding it increasingly difficult lately to get together for a challenge session. They’re both extremely active on the high stakes online scene and such games have been plentiful lately.
Their latest challenge session – much like the one before it - was a relatively short one too. They played for about two hours and logged 693 hands, at the end of which the Finn walked away with a slight edge. The reason why he wasn’t able to clock a more significant advantage was that the 10 big pots played during the session were evenly split by the two protagonists.

The first such pot was a $100,396 one, and it went Dwan’s way. The money went all-in on the turn of a board made up of J,7,3,10 and Dwan showed K,Q,10,8. Antonius was behind Dwan’s middle pair, straight and flush draws, with his A,K,Q,4. The 8 on the river gave Dwan two pairs and he dragged the pot.
A few minutes later, Dwan managed to take down another monster pot, this time a $110,000 one. Antonius however hit a nut flush a few hands later, on a lucky river card. That hand gave him a $147,583 pot, which was the session’s second largest.

The largest pot unfolded on a flop of Jh, 9s, 4h. Antonius checked, Dwan placed a bet which Antonius raised. Dwan called the raise. A Ks fell on the turn and all hell broke loose again. Antonius’ bet prompted an all-in move by Dwan, which got called by the Finn.
Dwan had a Kc,Jh,9s,4h which gave him the top two pair, ahead of Antonius’ As, Jd, 9h, 7d which secured a smaller two pair for the Finn. The river fell a meaningless 5s, and Dwan took down the $153,225 pot, the session’s largest. It was Antonius who called it the day this time, after about two hours of the above described back and forth action.
