ANZPT Auckland – Day 2 Report

The second day of the ANZPT’s Auckland Main Event saw 76 players belly up to the tables of the SkyCity Auckland Casino. The goal for the day was nothing less than the reaching of the final table and it was indeed handily reached. As far as the players were concerned, the first major highlight of the day was the money bubble. At the beginning of the day, 50 players needed to be bounced for the bubble to be reached. The pre-bubble action was relatively fast. The one who earned the dubious title of bubble-boy was Souny Frederic, who bit the dust in 25th place. Frederic’s elimination came after a break, when he returned a little late and had to miss the first hand. He pushed all-in on the following hand though, holding an A,Ko. Monica Eastick and Cole Swannack both called him. Swannack had a 4,5o and he hit a pair of 4s on the board which was enough to take the pot down for him.

Play sped up a bit with the money bubble out of the way. Michael Guzzardi was among those eliminated after the bubble: he finished in 17th place. He was followed to the rail by Angie Fitzgerald, one of the day 1 chip leaders. Swannack, the hero of the money-bubble didn’t make the nine-handed final table either: he bowed out of the poker tournament in 12th place.
The final table bubble-boy was Andre Nunes-Carreira, who was eliminated in 10th place by none other than the eventual chip leader, Jamie Mulligan. Mulligan went on to finish with a stack of 987k chips. Pravin Harji finished with the second largest stack: his 597k was far behind Mulligan’s leading pile of chips though. Graeme Putt is the official short-stack of the final table.
