ANZPT Perth – Dejan Divkovic Wins

The beginning of the final day of ANZPT’s Perth Main Event saw a heavily segmented field belly up to the tables. Four of the players were quite severely short-stacked, while the others enjoyed a more than handy advantage. Thankfully, the generous structure of the poker tournament has allowed the short-stacks to make some meaningful last stands.
The first elimination of the final table took more than 30 minutes to come by. The player who bit the dust in 9th place was David Fragomeni, who got his last chips into the middle on a pair of Js, earning a call from David Evans and his pocket rockets. The board fell all blanks and the ice was broken. Fragomeni picked up a little more than AU$10k for his efforts.

The next player to bite the dust was Luke Brabin, himself a local player: he picked up AU$14.2k. The interesting thing about the final table of the event was that although it was dominated by Australians (7 of the 9 final tablists were Aussies) none of them made it to the heads-up stage.
Brabin was followed to the rail by one of the previous chip leaders: James Broom. Colin Wilford and David Evans were the next two players to get more closely acquainted with the rail. Philip Gidley-king was the next one to join the eliminated. Dale Marsland’s elimination in 3rd place saw the last hopes of the local crowd evaporate. The heads-up stage of the event saw Bosnia’s Divcovic square up against Japan’s Iori Yogo.
In the heads-up bout, Divcovic landed the first blow, and as it’s often the case, he who lands the first proper blow is the one who laughs last indeed. Yogo did fight back, but it was too little too late and Divcovic soon secured the title.
