ANZPT Perth Main Event – Day 1A Report

The first day 1 flight of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour’s Perth stop saw some 85 players belly up to the tables, of whom 54 were left standing at the end of the day. The player who finished Day 1A with the largest stack was Bernard Beh, who had 79.8k chips bagged. Beh shot to the top during the late stages of the action, after Dale Marsland and Oliver Gill held the lead for most of the day. Gill has eventually sunk back into the field somewhat, finishing with 63.4k chips to his name. Lorinda Johnson finished 3rd, with 70.4k chips, and Paul Mac ended up in 4th, with 64.2k.

Although he may not be particularly well-known world-wide, Bernard Beh is definitely no newcomer to the local poker scene. He has amassed some $300k in tournament winnings, and he took down his largest score at the 2012 ANZPT Perth, winning a high roller for a $48k reward. Marsland has been a regular on the local poker circuit as well, and he has made the final table of the ANZPT’s Perth stop twice. His first final table finish came in 2010, during the inaugural edition of the event. His second final table run ended in 3rd place last year. Most of Marsland’s chips came late in the day, when he ended up taking down a massive pot from Daniel Levy. Marsland had flopped a set before pushing all-in on the river of the said hand, and he got called by Levy, who simply mucked when he saw what he was up against.
Patrick Crivell finished with a large stack as well, which was rather surprising, considering the fact that he had spent most of the day on a short stack. During the last level of action, he pulled a fast one on Jimmy Wong though, his pocket 5s cracking the latter’s pocket rockets.
