ANZPT Perth Main Event – Day 1B Report

The second Day 1 flight of the ANZPT’s Perth Main Event drew a much larger starting field than Day 1A. A total of 171 players bellied up to the tables, looking to have their Day 2 tickets punched. At the end of the day, 91 of these players could consider their mission fulfilled. Day 1B set the total number of participants in the
poker tournament to 256, setting the prize-pool to AU$512k. What that means is that the winner will walk away with AU$131.9k and that those who barely reach the money will take home AU$4.1k.
The numbers-game clear, Brian Mcallister was the one who clinched the overall chip lead on Day 1B, finishing with a stack of 103.1k chips. Mcallister won’t be able to rest on his laurels come Day 2 though: he was followed in the Day 1B chip counts by Andrew Hinrichsen, who had a little over 83k chips bagged.
Hinrichsen is without a doubt the top “name” player in the top ranks currently. The Australian has some $900k in tournament profits, and unlike most of his high high-profile compatriots, he actually has a
WSOP bracelet to his name. Despite the fact that he is indeed a dangerous and very capable player, Hinrichsen hasn’t enjoyed a great deal of success on home turf, at least thus far.
Luke Brabin also made the top 5 of Day 1B, finishing the day with 73.8k chips. Aaron Lim finished with a healthy stack to his name too: he had 66.4k chips bagged. Most of his chips came late in the day when he managed to flop a set of 6s, making his opponent – Dylan Honeyman – pay.
Full Tilt Poker representative Tom Grigg finished among the large stacks as well.
Day 2 will see a total of 145 players return to action.
