ANZPT Queensland – Day 3 Report

31 players returned to the tables on the 3rd day of the ANZPT’s Queensland Snowfest Main Event. The goal was nothing more and nothing less than play down to the final table and by the end of the day, that goal was indeed achieved. Not unfamiliar with the leader’s spot in this event, Ken Demlakian clinched the chip lead again.
Day 3 had an excellent start. I took the field only a few minutes to eject the first three victims, after which the trickle of eliminations soon turned into a steady flow.
At the end of the first level of play, 6 players were already missing from the tables. Aaron Benton was one of the high profile victims of Day 3. He first got the majority of his chips into the middle on an A,10 against an opponent’s pocket Ks. He dropped that pot obviously, and left crippled by the blow, he only lasted a couple of BBs afterwards.

Billy Argyros didn’t fare much better either. As a matter of fact, his elimination was a much more painful one, given that he busted out only two spots short of the money. His problems started when he picked up pocket Js and couldn’t resist shoving all-in on them. He got called by an opponent who had A,K for the classic coin-flip. The flop gave his opponent a pair of Aces, but the J on the turn gave him a set putting him back in the driver’s seat. The river was a massive cooler: another A which gave his opponent better trips.
The bubble boy was none other than Michael Kanaan. Kannan got his last chips into the middle against Demlakian, the eventual chip leader. Demlakian then proceeded to hit a set on the river to send Kanaan packing.
Jason O’Brien was eliminated shortly after the money bubble had burst. He was followed to the rail by Michael Fadersen and David Wonson. David Allan made the final table of the poker tournament, together with Ricky Kroesen.
