ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the last stop of the 5th season of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour saw 39 players belly up to the tables. The day turned out to be a relatively short one, leaving 22 players standing at the cessation of the green felt hostilities. The player who had the largest stack bagged at the end of the day was Daniel Laidlaw, who managed to amass 85.9k chips.
Laidlaw enjoyed a steady run on Day 1b, winning every major confrontation in which he took part and he did indeed take part in quite a few big hands. In fact, he ended up on the winning side of the biggest hand of the day, eliminating Daniel Mayoh in the process.
Laidlaw was the one who initiated the aggression in the said hand, and Mayoh – who was sitting in the Big Blind – decided to mount a defense. The flop fell 2,K,9 all clubs. Mayoh checked and then called his opponent’s bet. The 5h on the turn prompted him to fire out a bet of his own, which was called by Laidlaw. The Ks on the river saw another bet from Mayoh, in response to which, Laidlaw put him all-in. Mayoh made the call with three Ks while Laidlaw had the other K for the same hand and an A for the top kicker.

Australia’s Dean Schneider had a good day too, especially during the early stages of the action. For a while, he had the chip lead too, but eventually he lost the top position. He finished with 39.3k chips to his name.
Luke Brabin played well too, and unlike Schneider, he kept the pedal to the metal all the way to the finish line. He finished with 68.6k chips, second only to the chip leader.
