Day 3 of the ANZPT’s Sydney Main Event – which proved to be the last one of the
poker tournament – saw 22 players return to the tables. Trung Tran was the first victim of the day: he pushed his last chips into the middle on a board of 6,3,2,4, but unfortunately for him, there was an opponent still in the hand who had 5,7 for the nut straight. He failed to catch up and he bit the dust.
The first objective of the day was the reaching of the final table and after about 4 hours of play, the remaining survivors did indeed find themselves facing the last stretch of the event. Luke Brabin and Iori Yogo were two of the notables who never made it. The final table bubble-boy was Ben Gilholme, who put his tournament life onto the line in this crucial stage of the event, with a Qd, Jd. The one who made the call was Dejan Divkovic, who held pocket rockets. The elimination meant that Divkovic would start the final table with the largest stack. He took full advantage of his stack too and made his way to the heads-up stage of the event before falling to eventual winner, Dinesh Alt.
Rick Solomon was the first player to bite the dust at the final table. He was followed to the rail by Dan Kelly, after nearly two hours of back and forth. Kelly got his chips into the middle on pocket 7s and he was called by Dominik Nitsche who had an A,Qo. A Q fell on the river and Kelly was gone.
Donald Jones and Michael Fadersen were the next two players to head to the rail. David Campion and Dominik Nitsche were bounced as well. Divkovic picked up AUD$144.4k, while the winner’s share of the prize-pool was AUD$226.3k.
