Apple Founder Steve Jobs Dead at 56

Steve Jobs, the man who has single handedly turned Apple and its products like the iPad, iPod, iPhone, iMac and iTunes into a global success story, and whose innovative thinking has made a major mark on the evolution of technology itself, has died aged 56.
According to a statement released by the Apple Board of Directors, Jobs, who had pretty much become the face of the company over the last few years, was the source of countless innovations that have had a positive impact on the lives of people all over the world.
The homepage of Apple’s website showed a picture of Jobs and the text: Steve Jobs: 1955-2011. The same text discretely appeared under the search box on Google.com too.

Jobs’ contribution to the world of computer and communication technology cannot be overstated: together with a childhood friend of his, Steve Wozniak, he was responsible for the Apple II, considered the first ever personal computer. As such, Jobs has impacted countless online industries that have emerged over the years, among them online poker too.
Jobs’ health had taken a turn for the worse in around 2004, when he battled a rare form of pancreatic cancer. He had had liver transplant in 2009. He stepped down as Apple’s CEO in August 2011, as his health declined further. In his letter of resignation he said that the day when he could no longer meet the expectations as Apple’s CEO had unfortunately come.

Even though he had pretty much become the face of the company over the last few years, he never was much of a media person. All the interviews he had granted were solely about Apple and its products, they never touched his personal life in any way.
Jobs had dropped out of Reed College in Oregon at the age of 21. He founded Apple with Wozniack in his parents’ garage and by the age of 25 he was a multi-millionaire.
According to employees, the design of a product was just as important in Jobs’ eyes as were its hardware and software capabilities.
