APPT Cebu – Day 3 Report

The third day of the APPT’s Cebu Main Event was just as short as the two day 1 flights and day 2: it only consisted of 6 levels of action, well enough for the field to play down to the final table. When the day was called, the top spot on the provisional chip leader board was occupied by a familiar face: Jim Collopy managed to clinch the lead, securing pole position for the home dash on Day 4. Collopy has certainly been on fire lately: he’s made deep runs in several major live
poker tournaments and he’s just won his first
WSOP bracelet in Melbourne about a month ago.
25 players returned to the tables of the Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino on Day 4, looking to first play past the money bubble which was set for 20th place. Needless to say, with the money bubble that close, the action kicked off on a rather cautious note. It took the field more than 3 hours to finally reach the money. The official bubble-boy of the event was Ivan Tan, who got his last chips into the middle with pocket Js on the bubble, only to be called by Milan Gurung, who had an A,Qo. The coin-flip went Gurung’s way when the Qc fell on the river.
Tan’s elimination loosened up the action quite a bit and although every now and then the flow of eliminations would hit a bottle-neck, on the whole, the action sped up by quite a bit after the bubble.
Christian Friedrich was one of the players bounced after the bubble. He bit the dust in 20th place. He was followed to the rail by Ying Zhao and Daniel Francis. Milan Gurung was eliminated too, in 11th place, only a couple a spots off the final table.
