APPT Cebu – Day 4: first-ever female champion crowned

Nine extremely jittery players showed up on the final day of the APPT’s Cebu main event. Each and every one of them knew all too well that at the end of the day, there would be only one left standing, clutching the trophy and pocketing the money.
The start of the day chip leader, Kim Gap Young had around a quarter of the chips in play in his possession when the action commenced. He started out aggressively, bent on putting his chip advantage to good use. Sure enough, during the first level he put in a rather dominating performance, capturing most of the pots. Short stack Raymond Lapitan wanted to play cautiously, as he spent some time waiting for a decent starting hand to land. Eventually, he was forced to put his tournament life on the line, holding a lowly Jc,9c. Mikael Rosen jumped all over the opportunity holding pocket kings. Lapitan was followed to the rail by Richard En, who lost a coin flip against Kim Gap Young.

Jukka Juvonen had it going well for a while, but he dropped a crucial hand to Young Shin Im. The next victim would fall at the hands of Kim Gap Young again. Basilios Diakokomnios’ A,8o fell to his dominating A,Qo.
Daren Yoon had started the day on a more than decent stack. He kept waiting for a good starting hand but eventually his stack ran out of steam and he was forced to shove all in on a K,J, and got called by an opponent who had pocket kings. Rosen was the next to fall, followed to the rail by Kim Gap Young, whose elimination set up the heads-up stage of the game.
Fabiano Michael battled uphill, overcoming a 2-1 chip handicap, before he succumbed to Young Shin Im on an A,6o vs 5,5 match up.
