APPT Cebu – Jae Kyung Sim Wins

The APPT’s Cebu Main Event reached its conclusion and its winner is Jae Kyung Sim, a player who hasn’t really rattled any cages through the poker tournament and who only seemed to fire up the boosters once he had reached the final table. During Day 3, Sim was riding a short-stack and doing his best to stay out of the way of those trading decisive blows. Flying under the radar proved to be the right approach for him, as a late chip-up allowed him to sneak into the home dash.

The first player to bite the dust at the final table was Andrew Nguyen. He got the last of his chips into the middle after he lost a massive pot, on an A,Qo. Sim made the call with A,K and the board brought a bunch of blanks to seal Nguyen’s fate for good.
Michael Allmrodt followed him to the rail in 8th place, picking up a PHP 468k prize. Timo Kohijoki was the next victim of the final table. He was bounced by Sim, who at that point had scored all the final table knockouts.
Having gathered plenty of momentum already, Sim wouldn’t stop there either. He scored the next elimination as well, bouncing Bawod Hyunshik Yun in 6th place.
Daniel Spence was involved in that hand too, but he managed to get out of the way in due time. He couldn’t avoid heading to the rail next though, Magnus Karlsson the one responsible for his demise.

Jim Collopy had all eyes on him at the beginning of the day, but the public attention didn’t tide him through some tough spots, and thus he faded away in 4th place eventually. Anthony Wright’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the event. The heads-up action was over in three hands.
