APPT Macau ACOP Main Event – Sunny Jung Wins

The APPT’s Macau ACOP Main Event may have lasted longer than the organizers had anticipated, but in the end a winner did emerge – after nearly a week of action. That winner was Korea’s Sunny Jung, who bested Hong Kong’s Devan Tang heads-up for the title and the HK$4.35 million top prize. There were no deals made among the top ranks and indeed, the two players who had made day 6 didn’t strike a deal of their own either.
A total of 203 players had bellied up to the tables about a week ago through the two day 1 flights of the
poker tournament. The starting field was extremely pro-heavy, because of the generous buy-in/payout and of course the deep-stacked, slow structure of the event, meant to push the luck-factor as far back as possible.
Only the top 25 finishers were paid, and indeed, there was quite a bit of back and forth over 3 days of action before the money bubble burst.
With the bubble out of the way and only twenty-something players returning on Day 4, the final table was reached in the blink of an eye.
The nine players who made the final table all did so on generous stacks, so it was obvious from the get-go that day 5 – originally scheduled as the last day of the event – would be an extremely long affair. It certainly did not disappoint in this respect, given that after an entire day of action, the field failed to play down to a winner, so Jung and Tang were forced to come back on Day 6 to put the final nail in.
On Sunday, the two players returned for the home straight of the tournament, on relatively even footings, although Jung did have a slight lead. Jung took advantage of his position and eventually he prevailed. The share of the runner-up was HK$3.66 million.
