Macau, one of the hotspots of the global live poker world is on fire again this week, hosting the
PokerStars-sponsored Asia Pacific Poker Tour. The Series is an intricate affair indeed, as it includes ACOP (Asia Championship of Poker) events too, the first one of which went into the books on Sunday.
The HK$25k Warm-Up has ended with Jian Yang’s victory. The Chinese took home HK$1.7 million, after he bested Malaysia’s Wei Hsiang Yeu heads-up. Other deep finishing players were Ireland’s David Foran, who picked up HK$695k for his 3rd place and Australia’s Billy Argyros, who ended up in 4th place for a HK$ 547k reward.
Yang had the pole position heading into the final table, and he took advantage of his massive chip lead to make his way to the top. There was only one other player with more than 1 million chips, Yeu, who would eventually make it to the heads-up stage of the
poker tournament, but the difference between the two was quite considerable indeed.
Paul Cheng from Hong Kong was the first one to bite the dust: he was sent packing in 9th place, picking up a HK$170k reward. Cheng was followed to the sidelines by Saehoon Lee, from Korea, who collected HK$208k for his 8th place.
The next player to bow out of the event was the UK’s Tom Altner, who collected HK$283k for his 7th place.
Steven Zhou of China was the next victim, followed in turn by Roger Spets, the only Swede to make the final table of the event.
Argyros was bounced in 4th place, and after David Foran headed to the rail as well, the two start of the day large stacks squared off for the home stretch.
The heads-up match lasted for exactly one hand: Yang’s Ac,4c got the better of Yeu’s Kh,8h and the tournament was over.
