APPT Macau, Asia Championship of Poker – Day 3 Report

The third day of the APPT Macau’s Asia Championship of Poker wrapped up exactly in the wake of the money bubble. As soon as the bubble burst, the day was called and thus all those who survived could go to bed safe in the knowledge that they hadn’t wasted their buy-ins on this
poker tournament. A total of 22 players remained, with Michael Kanaan leading them into what may turn out to be the last day of the event.
The unfortunate bubble-boy, whose elimination signaled the end of day 3, was Linh Tran, who fell at the hands of Aaron Lim in the last hand of the day. Tran was sitting in the cut-off and he couldn’t resist to fire out a 38k bet when the action was folded around to him. In response, Lim, who was sitting in the button pushed all-in, and as everyone else cleared out of the way, tabled pocket 9s. Tran had an A,Ko and the classic coin-flip was on.
The flop sent a dagger into Tran’s heart with its very first card which was another 9, giving Lim a set. The 5d fell on the turn, followed by a completely irrelevant Jc on the river, and the bubble was history.
Kanaan, the eventual chip leader, had a positively superb day. Although far from eventless, his day was nothing but a continuous upward move through the chip counts.
Though his stack had been on path to the top anyway, he gave it a nice boost when he bounced Patrick Lui in 24th place.
Andrew Gaw finished second behind Kanaan, although his day was much more variance-ridden. He started out by dropping a huge pot, and from there on out, the roller-coaster just wouldn’t stop for him.
