APPT Melbourne – Day 3 Report

The third day of the APPT’s Melbourne Main Event was to be one of special significance. The money bubble was set to burst on day 3 and the end-goal for the day was nothing less than the reaching of the final table. After a slugfest of a day, 9 players did manage to reach the final stretch, the money bubble a distant memory in the rearview mirror for them.
44 players showed up at the tables at the beginning of the day with Wayne Bentley leading the pack. Bentley took advantage of his large stack and as he kept adding to it, more and more players hit the rail. It only took about an hour for the first 10 victims to be expelled from the tables. Grant Levy was among the early victims, together with Oliver Gill.
Tony Hachem was one of the short-stacks at the beginning of the day, and he thus had a great deal of pressure bearing down on him. For a while he looked like he was going to claw his way back into the field, but eventually he faded away nonetheless, busting out at the hands of James Bills.
As the money bubble loomed on the horizon, most players slowed down, with the exception of Brendon Rubie, who turned the heat on in order to chip up seriously. Dale Marshland was the bubble-boy of the
poker tournament. He was eliminated in 29th place, by Bentley, whose pocket Ks won a classic coin-flip against Marshland’s A,Qo.
With the bubble out of the way, the action loosened up a bit again. Ben Skender busted out around this time, together with Mishel Anunu.
PokerStars’ Roy Bhasin was eliminated after the bubble too, in 25th place. The final table bubble-boy was Ismail Ismail. Kristian Lunardi made the final table, together with Sam Razavi, Tom Grigg and Brendon Rubie. The other final table participants are Nigel Andrews, Gary Benson, Keith Walker and James Bills.
