APPT Sydney Day 1C report

The largest Day 1 field waited till Day 1C to get rolling in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s Sydney event. 197 players took to the felt, among them no fewer than 3 WSOP Main Event Champions. Joseph Hachem, Chris Moneymaker and Peter Eastgate were all there, together with John Juanda, Edward Sabbat and Van Marcus.

Aussie singer Brian McFadden became one of the early casualties when he flopped top pair with his A,K and went all-in, only to find that someone else had flopped a set. The tough going took its toll on the pro field too, as Nali Kaselias busted out soon after McFadden, when he went all-in on an A,J, got called by an A,K and found no relief on the board. The WSOP champions didn’t fare a whole lot better either. Peter Eastgate found it difficult to get anything at all going, and shoved all-in on an A,8 to somehow break the ice. The move backfired though as an opponent called him on A,A and even though the flop flashed a glimmer of hope for the newest WSOP Main Event Champ, in the shape of an 8, the turn and the river failed to bail him out and he was done.

Joe Hachem became the second World Champion to say bye-bye as his pocket 9s were no match for Marcus Bechara’s A,K who went on to see his ace pair up on the flop and to form a set on the turn.
Tony Hachem once again outlasted his brother, but he too fell, shortly before the dinner break when he shoved all in on his pocket 10s against John Juanda’s A,Q to see the board fall Q,3,7,8,9.

APPT Auckland Champion, Daniel Craker busted out later in the evening when he ran into Josh O’Brien’s rivered set.
Chris Moneymaker, the only surviving WSOP Champion had a much better run than his peers. He managed to get things going early on with a double-up, and continued in quite the same fashion.
At day’s end, the chip-lead went to Manish Sansi, who collected 103,600 chips. He was followed by Patrick Carron with 98,300.
