APPT Sydney Day 3 report

48 Day 2 survivors returned to the tables of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s Sydney stop to set the final table on Day 3. In contrast with the grueling and lengthy Day 2 affair, Day 3 featured a much shorter confrontation, in which the line-up, already stripped of its stars, quickly thinned down to 9.

Jimmy Wong became the first victim of the day when he decided to shove all-in on his Ad,Qd on a flop which came 8,A,9. Antonio Fazziolari was quick to call him with his Ah,9h. The turn fell a 6 and the river an 8 sending Wong to the rail.

As the payout-increase thresholds were reached, multiple players were eliminated simultaneously, first around 40th place where three players busted out in the same time. The prize money was added together for 39th, 40th and 41st and divided equally among those concerned. The same thing happened again when Anthony Rafter and Roel Pijpers were both ejected in 32nd.

One of the notable eliminations of the day was that of Jamie Pickering, who got hit bad and pushed to the edge of extinction by Jason Gray. Pickering shoved all-in on his pocket kings as Gray caught an A on the river to his A,K to leave Pickering’s stack in tatters.
Jamie did tiptoe around on his short stack for a while, but then picked up a K,10 and shoved all in on it. He got called by Jason Gray again, who had an Ac, 5c in his pocket. The flop fell 9,A,K giving both players a pair, but the 9 on the turn and the 3 on the river sealed Pickering’s fate. He took home AUD 15,400.

Eric Assadourian lasted all the way to 20th, where he got into a tussle with Brendan Edmonds. Assadourian’s A,J found itself in trouble against Edmonds’ A,Q and it failed to get anything going as the board fell 6,4,Q,8,8.

Antonio Fazziolari took on Tom Rafferty in the battle of the big-stacks and made him fold on the turn adding a significant stack of chips to his own and moving into the provisional chip-lead. Michael Guzzardi became the last elimination of the day, finishing in 10th.

The chip-lead was eventually clinched by Fazziolari, with 1,775,000, followed by Jason Gray with 1,188,000.
