Asia Millions Main Event – Day 1 Report

The Main Event of the Asia Millions offers players some truly incredibly prizes which probably explain why the
poker tournament managed to lure away some of the biggest poker names from the tables of the
2013 WSOP.
The event – taking place at PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams in Macau – kicked off on Wednesday, with 71 players coughing up the USD 130k buy-in. What this means is that the eventual winner will walk away with a prize of almost $4.5 million, while those finishing in the top 6 will all take home at least $1 million.
Players were offered the option of re-buying twice, regardless of the size of their stack, and several players took advantage of this option. There were quite a few who re-bought twice, taking the total number of re-buys to 54.
With so many good players at the tables and with so much money on the line, scores of “name” competitors found themselves on the outside looking in on Day 1 of the Asia Millions. Shaun Deeb, Erik Seidel and Mike Watson were all eliminated. A total of 20 players bit the dust on day 1, leaving 51 in contention for Day 2.
Shaun Deeb’s elimination was a particularly interesting one: the board was all clubs and he had the Ac, so he pushed all-in, safe in the knowledge that nobody could possibly have a better hand than his nut flush. Unfortunately for him though, JC Alvarado made a straight flush to top his hand and he was eliminated.
PokerStars pro Jonathan Duhamel finished the day with the largest stack after a high-variance ride, which had him grasping for straws in the beginning and cruising along smoothly during the second part of the day. Isaac Haxton finished the day second in chips.
