Asia Millions Set to Kick off in June

There has probably never been a better time in the history of poker to be a well-bankrolled, high-profile poker professional than now. One can barely make time for all the major live events peddling their massive prize-pools left and right. Even though the
2013 WSOP is just around the corner, truly savvy players can squeeze one more major event into their schedule before they descend upon Las Vegas. The
poker tournament we’re talking about is the Guangdong Ltd Asia Millions which features a buy-in of $130k (HKD 1 million). Meant to be a true high roller, the Asia Millions has already seen 50 players register – quite a healthy starting field indeed, considering the size of the buy-in.
Most of the participants are obviously from the Asia-Pacific region, and many of them do not even plan to attend the WSOP afterwards, but according to PokerStars, there will be quite a few Western players duking it out at the tables of the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams poker room.
Full Tilt Poker pro Gus Hansen, Erik Seidel and John Juanda have already confirmed that they would play. Others who will join the fray are Joseph Cheong, Greg Merson, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Tobias Reinkemeier and JC Alvarado. PokerStars’ own Jonathan Duhamel and Isaac Haxton will play as well. The event wraps up on June 7, so those playing in it will have plenty of time to catch a plane and head to Las Vegas for the WSOP. Organizers are counting on a prize-pool of at least $6.5 million, which would leave more than $1 million for the winner – indeed a handsome reward well worth traveling to Hong Kong for.
Last year, a bigger event – a $260k one – saw 79 players belly up to its tables in Macau.
