Aussie Millions $100k Challenge – Yevgeniy Timoshenko Wins

This year, the Aussie Millions’ $100k Challenge high roller was a massive success: a total of 39 players took part in it, contributing no fewer than 76 entries. Considering that last year that number was 22, things did indeed look good for the organizers as well as for those who took part in the high stakes brawl.
After two days of action, things wrapped up today, with Yevgeniy Timoshenko’s victory. Timoshenko walked away with an AUD$2 million top prize. The one Timoshenko defeated heads-up was Mike McDonald. McDonald walked away with an AUD$1.5 million prize. Erik Seidel finished 3rd for AUD$1.07 million, wrapping up the list of the 6-figure winners.
Doug Polk, who had pushed two buy-ins into the middle at this poker tournament (and who lost quite a bit of money online this week), made it to 4th place, recovering his losses and locking up a bit of money on the side: his reward was AUD$860k.

Scores of other “name” pros finished deep: Patrik Antonius, who has faded into the background somewhat lately, made it all the way to 5th place, picking up an AUD$700k prize. The other players who made the final table were PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu, David Steicke and Martin Jacobson.

At the beginning of the second day, 29 players returned to the tables looking to play down to the winner. Isaac Haxton, who had bought in no fewer than 5 times on Day 1, re-bought yet again, and he immediately bit the dust again, at Patrik Antonius’ hands. Antonius had pocket Qs going up against his A,Ko in a classic coin-flip, and the Finn won. Gus Hansen and Scott Seiver were two other Day 2 entrants, and they fared no better than Haxton.
The first level of action also claimed the tournament lives of Viktor Blom, Marvin Rettenmaier and Tobias Reinkemeier.
PokerStars is the springboard for many a live tournament regular these days. Their online qualifiers offer an excellent way for online players to break into the world of live tournament action.
