Aussie Millions $250k Challenge – Final Table Reached

The 2014 Aussie Millions shattered one record after another, through many of its various high rollers and even through its Main Event. The $250k Challenge, the biggest of the high rollers, was ahead of the pack in this respect too: a total of 46 buy-ins went into the middle in this event, and even though there are currently only 8 players left standing, the accomplishment was nothing short of impressive. To gain an idea of just how big this year’s $250k Challenge was, one must consider the numbers posted by the editions of years past. Last year, there were 18 buy-ins, creating a prize-pool of AUD$4.5 million.
Before that, there were 16 buy-ins posted and in 2011, there were 20. This year, the prize-pool is AUD$11.72 million, which means that the winner is guaranteed an AUD$4 million prize.
The interesting thing about this year’s final table is that both Phil Ivey and Erik Seidel are still standing, and given that Ivey won this
poker tournament back in 2012 and that Seidel did the same in 2011, we may live to see the first double winner of the $250k Challenge.
Also, the event may send Ivey over an important mile-stone career profits-wise. If he wins or manages to finish runner-up, he’ll have more than $20 million in lifetime tournament winnings.
Isaac Haxton will be another player to watch: he’s bought into the $100k Challenge no fewer than 6 times and he ended up not having anything to show for it. He also paid out two buy-ins for the $250k Challenge, which means that till now he’s invested some $1.1 million at the Aussie Millions. How much of that he’ll be able to recoup at the final table remains to be seen.
Tom Dwan is still in the running as well. Once known as
online poker’s wild-child, Dwan has faded from the limelight lately.
