Aussie Millions $250k Challenge - Phil Ivey Wins Again
Posted by: James Carter. - Wed, 2015-02-04 05:00
Phil Ivey's first win in the $250k high roller of the Aussie Millions came back in 2012. Given the high-rolling nature of the
poker tournament, the size of the starting field wasn't particularly impressive, but obviously, all the participants were top professionals. Last year, Ivey won the same event again, besting 46 players that time around, and picking up a AU$4 million prize. This year, he returned to mount a title defense, and lo and behold: he was successful at it. His 2015 victory marked the 3rd time in 4 years that he managed to win the prestigious event.
This time around, there were 25 registrants in the event and the money that the winner picked up as reward for his efforts was AU$2.2 million. Initially, only 23 players had coughed up the quarter-million buy-in, but on the final day, Isaac Haxton tossed some more money into the middle, re-entering, and Brian Rast took advantage of late registration to make his bid.

The final day of the event kicked off in the high gear: no fewer than 3 players bit the dust over the first three hands. Ole Schemion was one of the early victims. He was joined on the rail by Igor Kurganov and then by Rast, who got in exactly three hands for his buy-in.
The final table bubble-boy was Jason Mo, but those who made the final 8 were still not in the money. Dan Smith and Isaac Haxton fell next, followed by the actual bubble-boy of the event, Richard Yong. Yong, one of Ivey's friends and the fresh winner of the $100k high roller, fell at Ivey's hands in 6th place, landing everyone else in the money. The one Ivey bested heads-up was Mike McDonald, who walked away with AU$1.59 million.
