Aussie Millions Main Event Day 2 report

Posted by: James Carter. - Wed, 2009-01-21 16:52

Day 2 of the Aussie Millions Main Event saw 320 day 1A,B and C survivors belly up to the tables. Scotty Nguyen, Joe Hachem, Patrik Antonius and Tony G were all among these survivors however, at the end of the day it would be two young women who stood at the top of the rankings: Annica Ivert followed by Annette Obrestad, who finally seems like she’s found her rhythm.

Several big names headed to the rail early in the day. Mark Vos who came into Day 2 more or less crippled never managed to get any traction and slowly bled his chips away.
Phil Laak was also among the casualties as the field neared the 100 mark. He was eliminated by an opponent who called his all-in with an A,7. Billy Argyros soon followed him to the rail. Tony G came into Day 2 in possession of a healthy stack. That however soon evaporated from under his nose as he hit one bad beat after another. In the end, he shoved the last of his chips in on a pair of 3s and got a caller with a K,Q suited. The flop and the turn left him with the lead, but the river brought about a Q which meant the end of the road for Guoga.

Ivan Demidov, Mel Judah and James Obst also exited on Day 2. Scotty Nguyen and Joe Hachem didn’t find the going easy either. Nguyen had fortunately cracked an opponent’s hands with Q,Q against his K,K early in the day, and that provided him some chips which he kept bleeding away though. He finished the day down the rankings with the short-stacks.
A rather similar fate befell Joe Hachem, who started the day on a short-stack, but managed to triple up on one occasion. On the penultimate hand of the day though he let most of his chips slip away and finished on life-support.

Annica Ivert was sent to the Aussie Millions as an online qualifier by Betfair. She had an excellent day claiming several scalps on her way to the top of the leader board. Annette Obrestad finished second, followed by Rajkumar Ramakrishnan in third.
