Aussie Millions Main Event Day 4 report

Posted by: James Carter. - Fri, 2009-01-23 18:53

Day 4 of the Aussie Millions Main Event saw a thinned down starting field of 28 belly up to the tables of the Crown Casino in Melbourne. At the end of the day, there would only be 8 final tablists standing, the rest of the field ejected and sent to the payout line for their prizes. On Day 3, before his elimination, Joe Hachem had launched a call to Aussie players to bring the title home to Australia this year, and the proceedings of Day 4 did indeed place an Aussie on top of the provisional leader board before the final day.
Stewart Scott finished the day with a huge chip lead, having accumulated 4,520,000 chips, almost twice as much as the player in second place.

The first elimination of the day was that of Natan Meylak who ran a flopped set into an opponent’s straight draw which then went on to fill up on the turn.
Meylak was followed soon by Antonio Casale and Kelly Kim. Annette Obrestad had put in quite a performance over the first few days of the tournament but ran out of steam on Day 4. She got crippled and with her back against the wall, she shoved all-in on a pair of 9s she’d picked up. Rajkumar Ramakrishnan was fast to call her with pocket Js, and turned a set to seal Obrestad’s fate and send her packing in 21st place.

The early chip leader of Day 4, Michael Tureniec had a truly tough Day 4. He failed to find any traction through the day, but his stack managed to tide him through all the way to 19th place for which he picked up $50,000.

Sorel Mizzi walked the wire pretty much all day long, going all in several times and getting lucky here and there. His luck would leave his side on a hand in which his A,Q proved to be no match for Zach Fellows’ Q,Q despite the flush draw it picked up on the flop.

Another former chip leader, Annica Ivert busted out in 11th place.

Sam Capra (the person who eliminated Scotty Nguyen, and Barny Boatman also made the Main Event final table).
