Aussie Millions Main Event Final Table report

Australia’s own Stewart Scott answered Joe Hachem’s call for an Aussie player to bring home the Aussie Millions’ Main Event AU$ 2 million first prize, and did it in style too, by never relinquishing the chip lead at a final table which was pretty much void of big names except for Barny Boatman, the short-stack.

The Hendon Mob member maneuvered his short stack around adeptly for a while, but it soon became obvious he had to make a do or die decision if he intended to stay in the game. The move was made from under the gun with an A,2 and got a caller in Zach Gruneberg who had A,Q. Even though the flop gave both players a pair of Aces, it was not enough for Boatman who exited in 8th place taking home a AU$100,000 prize.

A few moments after Barny Boatman’s exit, Richard Ashby followed suit, eliminated by Rajkumar Ramakrishnan in 7th.
Zach Gruneberg, the American who won his Aussie Millions entry through a Cake Poker freeroll was the next to fall. His K,J hit top pair on a flop of 4,J,4 but little did he know that Ramakrishnan had hit quad 4s on the same flop.

Sam Capra put his tournament life on the line with his pocket 10s. Peter Rho held pocket rockets in the SB though, and he was quick to jump on the opportunity to thin the field further down. The board left both starting hands unimproved and thus Capra headed to the rail in possession of a AU$300,000 prize.
Rajkumar Ramakrishnan followed him to the rail in 4th place when his pocket rockets got cracked by Peter Rho’s pocket K’s on a flop which brought another K.

Elliot Smith finished 3rd as his A,Q got subdued by Stewart Scott’s A,7 which made a pair of 7s on the turn.
Heading into the heads-up stage, Scott held a huge chip lead over Peter Rho, and hammered his advantage home eagerly. The final hand of the event saw Rho go all-in on his A,J against Scott’s A,A. The board did nothing to either of the hands involved, and thus Scott took down the AU$2 million first prize, sending Rho home with AU$1 million.
