Bahador Ahmadi had started the final table of the $2,500 Mixed Holdem event second on the provisional leader board, and he slipped all the way to being a short-stack before he mounted a furious comeback and secured his first WSOP bracelet, disposing of his opponents in less than 7 hours. During the last 45 minutes of the tournament, Ahmadi was unstoppable: he knocked out opponents left and right and kept adding to his stack until all the chips in game were towering in front of him. The win gave him his first ever WSOP bracelet and a $278,804 prize.
The final table action began on a cautions note: the first 30 minutes went by without any significant moves. Barry Greenstein broke the ice when he doubled up at the expense of John McGuinness around the 30 minute mark.
Greenstein’s pocket Kings held up against McGuinness’ Ah, Qh which managed to catch a pair of Qs on the flop.
The first elimination of the final table was Zachary Humphrey. First, he got crippled by losing a big pot to Greenstein, when his J,10 fell short against Greenstein’s A,8o.
That hand left Humphrey with less than a big bet and forced him to shove all in on a Kc, 7c. He got called by Randy Haddox who had 10h, 8h. The board did give Humphrey a pair of Ks but the river completed Haddox’s Broadway straight and Humphrey hit the rail in 9th.
Hasan Habib locked horns with Barry Greenstein next, on a flop of 3c,Jh, 8c. Greenstein tabled Jh, 9h for the top pair and Habib showed A,10. The turn and the river bricked out and Habib was done in 8th place.
Barry Greenstein then proceeded to take another huge pot off Haddox, with pocket Ks. Haddox picked up $36,084 for his 7th place finish.
Matt Woodward ran his A,10 into Bahador Ahmadi’s pocket rockets next. No help came from the board and Woodward was bounced in 6th.
Greenstein’s ride would end at the hands of Ylon Schwartz next, on a 8,6o vs Q,Q match-up.
Schwartz then proceeded to bounce Karlo Lopez in 4th.
Three handed play went on for a while, with Schwartz holding a dominating chip lead. After dinner break though, Ahmadi returned to the table with a newfound attitude. Being shortest on chips during the break he mounted a fierce comeback and began winning pots left and right. It took him about 30 minutes to take over the hip lead and a mere 15 minutes more to hammer his edge home for good.
He took care of Schwartz first and then bounced McGuinness in the very next hand. The final hand of the tournament saw Ahmadi’s Jd, 3d go up against McGuinness’ pocket 10s. The turn gave Ahmadi a flush and McGuinness picked up $172,227 for his second place.
