Betrand Grospellier beats SNG record

As the EPT’s Monte Carlo Grand Final kicked off, French professional Bertrand Grospellier set off on his bid to beat fellow PokerStars team Pro member Hevad Khan’s SNG record. Khan had once filmed himself playing in 26 SNGs in the same time. Grospellier set out to beat that record more then two fold, as he bought into no fewer than 62 $6,20 SNGs. The tables were laid out on four monitors and the action was broadcast to a sensation-thirsty audience.
In order to legitimately beat the record, Grospellier had to show a profit at the end of his session, and he did. He needed to finish in the money on his last SNG table, but being able to focus more on it, he actually won it, to finish the record attempt $23.67 up and to clinch the official record.
ElkY just flew in from Vegas and he wasn’t exactly in a record-breaking mood when he set down to his challenge table. He was tired and he had no time to prepare, yet he was confident he’d be able to do it. In the beginning, all hell broke loose on the challenge table, with ElkY getting lost in the action several times. He was sitting out a lot and he later admitted he felt like he lost control and was losing a lot, several times through the 60 minutes of the challenge action. He too was surprised in the end when he was actually able to show a profit.
Hevad Khan, previous SNG record holder and Grospellier’s Team PokerStars Pro teammate pointed at ElkY’s flawless SNG strategy as the key to his success. He played tight (as if he’d had a choice when playing at 40 tables simultaneously), and he picked his spots right. Knowing when to shove is possibly one of the most important SNG skills.
Being able to fend off tilting is something that’s generally quite handy in poker, but which gains much more importance when multi-tabling SNGs.
Never the man to rest on his laurels, ElkY is set to belly up to the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final tables on Day 1b and get another strong performance in if possible.
