High stakes live tournament poker fans will probably be glad to learn that the $1 million Big One for One Drop, the largest ever poker tournament on the face of the planet, which first made waves at the 2012 WSOP, but was not brought back this year, will be back in 2014.
As always, the
WSOP will attempt to push things a bit further with the 2014 Big One: instead if the 48 player cap featured by the 2012 edition, this time around, the tournament will be capped at 56 players. Given the fact that the 2012 Big One didn’t just sell out, it actually left a few players willing to buy in high and dry, it is safe to say in 2014 the record set in 2012 will probably fall, as the larger player field and thus the larger prize-pool is pretty much guaranteed. If the 2014 Big One sells out indeed as expected, the eventual winner of the tournament will take home more than $20 million. Apparently, a special platinum bracelet will also be handed to the winner of the 2014 Big One.
Around 20% of the participants will be paid out, and needless to say, all those making the money will walk away with a memorable haul: even min-cash will be impressive in this one.
As in 2012, those coughing up the buy-in first will be the first to have their seats reserved. Those who provide a deposit will have their seats guaranteed.
Once again, out of every $1 million buy-in, $111,111 will go towards charity, donated to the One Drop Foundation the goal of which is to provide access to clean water for people around the globe currently lacking it.
The winner of the last Big One was Antonio Esfandiari, who took home $18.34 million, so the number to beat has indeed been set.
