The Big One for One Drop was obviously a huge success at the
2012 WSOP. Organizers weren’t disappointed by the number of players who managed to pony up the buy-in and they were definitely not disappointed in the buzz the event generated. On Monday, during the WSOP 2012 final table proceedings, a major announcement has been made by Guy Laliberte, chairman of the One Drop foundation: the world’s biggest
poker tournament ever will return in 2014. Those who are disappointed in the fact that 2013 is going to be skipped, shouldn’t worry too much: the 2013 Series won’t be One Drop-less either after all. A special event called the Little One for One Drop will be introduced, featuring a buy-in of $1,111.
The tournament will offer a WSOP bracelet for its winner, and the possibility of unlimited re-buys through the starting days for everyone.
The Big Drop has apparently grown into a respected brand, and it is well on its way to become a staple of WSOP Series from here on out.
According to Mitch Garber, Caesars Interactive Entertainment CEO, the impact of the Big Drop was a massively positive one for the game of poker. It presented the poker community in a positive light, given that it generated no less than $10 million for charity, of which $5.3 million went to One Drop. Putting together the biggest poker tournament in history wasn’t exactly a negative move either, as it garnered more player attention than anything before it.
Garber also hailed the opportunity to have had Guy Laliberte as his collaborator and added that an encore was the only obvious choice for both of them.
According to Laliberte, the Big One has positively impacted the lives of 100,000 needy.
