Blom 100 Challenge Wraps Up – 38 Players Paid

Viktor Blom is without a doubt one of the best online and live poker players out there these days, and for a second there – back when the Blom 100 challenge was announced at
Full Tilt Poker – some thought he may be generous as well. He sought to quickly dispel that misconception though, stating that he intended to win every single one of his 100 heads-up match-ups. The Challenge basically consisted in 100 SNG winners taking him on in heads-up matches, each of which would play down to a winner (until one of the contestants lost all his chips). The starting stacks for the heads-up bouts were 1,500 chips big and the structure was a traditional turbo one.
In order to secure the chance to take on the players considered the best by most experts, rank-and-file Full Tilt Players had to take part in a Twitter competition, they had to make a minimum re-deposit of $20 and they had to win a SNG at the site, or at least finish in the money in one of the MTTs.
After all 100 heads-up matches went into the books, Blom was the clear overall winner, having won 62. 38 players managed to best him though and each and every one of these guys walked away with $1k of Blom’s own money, which means that despite his wins, he finished the promotion $38k poorer.
Even though the final tally was clearly in his favor, Blom kicked off the series on the wrong foot, at one point falling behind 11 wins to 22 losses. He pulled himself together though, and eventually managed to avoid a potentially shameful trouncing.
The longest match lasted for 64 hands, while the shortest one was just 1 hand long, which means the average length was 34 hands.
