Borgata Poker Open – Failla Wins Again

To say that Will Failla has been something of a regular in the Borgata Poker Open events would probably be something of an understatement at this stage. He is now the absolute record-holder, with 5 titles to his name, his latest one added the other day, when he won the $1,090
NL Holdem Re-entry event.
The
poker tournament saw 159 players belly up to its tables, creating a prize-pool of $159k.
The share of the winner (Failla made no deals on his way to the top) was $46.2k. Failla defeated Jonas Wexler heads-up. The share of the runner-up was $25.4k. Anthony Zinno finished 3rd, followed by Michael Sneideman in 4th. None of the other players managed to break into 5-figures prize-wise.
Having reached the final table, things didn’t turn out to be a walk in the park for Failla, who found himself locked in a 3-handed stalemate at one point. The three-handed action lasted for nearly 8 hours, before Failla managed to dispose of the other two players. Although he does indeed have an impressive number of Borgata wins, none of the prizes he took down were particularly large: his biggest win tipped the scales at $58.8k.
A far bigger Borgata Poker open event than the one Failla won was the $560 Deeper Stack NL Holdem one, which offered a $500k guarantee. The tournament drew a starting field of 1,056 players, creating a $528k prize-pool, handily covering its guarantee.
The winner of this event was Johnson Nguyen, who walked away with a $111.3k prize, thus becoming the only 6-figure winner. The runner-up was Andrew Jeffrey, who pocketed $66.9k.
Third place went to Frank Bonacci, who was rewarded with $40.4k.
The biggest event of the Series is still to come though: the $3.5k WPT event is set to kick off next week, and it’s offering a $3 million guarantee.
