Borgata Spring Poker Open – Bahbak Oboodi Wins

Atlantic City saw some serious
poker action on Friday, when the Borgata Spring Poker Open played down to its 2013 winner at the Borgata Hotel Casino. Originally, 502 players decided to cough up the $2.7k buy-in, giving birth to a $1,255,000 prize-pool. On the first day of action, the field successfully played down to the final table, so on Day 2, it was all set to end.
The first casualty of the home stretch was Ray Shackelford, who ended up picking up $24.1k for his efforts. At that point in the
poker tournament, Oboodi already had a decent-size stack, sitting in second place behind Kenny Nguyen. The final table sailing would definitely not be smooth for him though.
The next player to bite the dust was Jordan Siegel, who picked up $34.4k for his 8th place. Henry Lu followed him to the rail, collecting $44k for his efforts.
Oboodi was tied in chips with Orson Young at one point at the final table, but while he managed to chip up at Michael Gagliano’s expense, Young managed to hit the rail in 6th place. His reward tipped the scales at $55.5k.
Oboodi then locked horns with Vinny Pahuja, a duel which left the latter’s stack in shambles. Forced to shove all-in, Pahuja put his tournament life onto the line with pocket 8s. Unfortunately for him, Oboodi had pocket rockets and he made the call, scoring the elimination.
Andy Philachack was the next victim of the final table. He finished 4th for $86.3k. Kenny Nguyen’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the event. Nguyen pushed his last chips into the middle with Ac, Qc against Gagliano’s pocket Ks. The board gave Gagliano quads and Nguyen was done.
The last hand of the heads-up confrontation saw Oboodi’s As, 7s best Gagliano’s Ks, Qs.
