Borgata Winter Open – Day 3 report

The 3rd day of action of the Borgata Winter Open is in the books. 37 players are left in contention, as Or Abramov leads the surviving pack into day 4 on a stack of 1.68 million chips.
The most important milestone reached by the poker tournament on Day 3 was the bursting of the money bubble. Of the 167 players who showed up at the table at the beginning of the day, a fair number would be forced to head home with the proverbial wooden spoon as only 72 places were paid.
The bursting of the money bubble turned out to be a rather interesting affair as two players busted out almost simultaneously. Bob Courtney got his last few chips into the middle on an A,3 against Greg Marcus’ pocket Qs. He failed to catch an A on the board and he was bounced, thinking he was the bubble boy. Tim Latouch was also all-in in pretty much the same time though with K,Q against an opponent’s pocket Js. He too failed to connect with the board and he was bounced as well. Because he had 500 chips less than Courtney when he pushed all-in, he was declared the bubble boy per tournament rules.

Following the bursting of the money bubble, the action accelerated. Josh Brikis fell victim to an unlikely flush during the post-bubble bustle. Day 2 chip leader Roz Quarto had a great day again, and she ended up second in chips behind Abramov.
Gavin Smith played well too. He finished day 4 with a more than healthy stack as well. One of Smith’s biggest hands of the day saw his 5h,6h hit a flush against Steven Tabb’s pocket Jacks. Jeff Papola and Craig Bergeron also survived the day, albeit on less impressive stacks.
Those who will return to the tables on Day 4 will do so in the knowledge that they have a minimum cash of $9.6k secured.
