37 players returned to the tables of the Borgata Winter Open with one goal in mind: to play down to the final table and preferably to survive to the final table too. That goal was indeed accomplished and for 10 of the 37 players, the survival part was part of the package as well.
Vadm Shlez was the most successful of those who will return on day 4. He amassed 4.4 million chips to clinch the chip lead going into the final table.
Jack Schanbacher was one of the favorites to move on to day 4 at the beginning of the day. He eventually bit the dust in 12th place, courtesy of eventual chip leader Shlez, who chipped up massively thanks to his elimination.
Shlez had played well all day, but when he got his chips into the middle holding A,K he knew he was on to something big. Schanbacher had pocket 9s and sure enough, Shlez proceeded to hit another A on the board to eliminate him.
Other notables who fell by the side on Day 4 were Gavin Smith and Jeff Papola. Smith’s elimination was a rather painful one. He got all his chips into the middle on an As, 6s and got called by Pat Carney who had pocket Qs. The flop fell 9x,9x,8s followed by a Js on the turn which gave Smith some hope. Ironically, the 9s which fell on the river completed his flush but it gave his opponent a boat as well, and his tournament was over.
Day 2 chip leader Roz Quarto was also eliminated, as was Day 3 chip leader Or Abramov. Abramov bit the dust in 24th place and Quarto was bounced in 23rd.
Richard Lyndaker had been sent to the rail much earlier, in 35th place.
The eventual winner of the
poker tournament will take home a massive $533,210 top prize.
