Borgata Winter Open – Vadm Shlez wins

10 players showed up at the Borgata on Day 5 of the $3,500 Borgata Winter Open, all of them with their eyes on the prize. The top prize that is. Vadm Shlez from NJ started the day with the largest stack of chips, and he managed to fully convert his advantage. When the dust settled, he was the one to whom the $533,210 was pushed. Upon his win, he said he knew he had just accomplished something big, exactly what his achievement meant though hadn’t completely sunk in with the winner.

Things pretty much went according to the blueprint early on Day 5. Tom Hu was the shortest stack going into the final stretch and sure enough, he became the first victim of the final table. He shoved all-in on a pair of 9s and got called by LJ Sande, who had pocket 10s. The board brought no relief to the besieged short-stack and he faded away in 10th.
9th place went to Allan Wrooman, himself a short-stack at the beginning of the day. Vrooman staked his last chips on an A,7 against an opponent’s pocket 3s. The board didn’t help him either and the field was down to 8.
Osagyefo Greene ended up in 8th place, when his pocket Ks were cracked by Vadm Shlez’s 9h, 8h. Steve Ryan felt like putting his tournament life onto the line next with Q,9. Gil Sacks’ pocket rockets took care of him in 7th.
Patrick Carney fell 6th, followed by Sacks in 5th. Bobby Suer got it all-in with Q,8o against Trevor Savage’s Q,10o. The board fell a bunch of bricks again to set up three handed play. Savage was the next victim when he shoved all-in on pocket 8s against Shlez’s pocket Js.
The heads-up play between Shlez and Sande was a massively one-sided affair from the get-go. The final hand of the poker tournament saw Shlez’s A,8 defeat Sande’s K,7 for the win.
