Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship Event – Day 2 Report

The second official day of the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship saw 642 players return to the tables - the survivors of two Day 1 flights. The player with the largest stack of chips at the beginning of the day was Laz Hernandez. Hernandez managed to put his large stack to work from the very beginning, and he never let anyone settle into the lead all through the day.
He finished as had begun: with the biggest stack piled up in front of him. He had 753k chips bagged. Matthew Haugen had a good Day 2 run too: he finished with 735.5k chips, enough for second place.
Tyler Patterson finished the day in 3rd place, with 618.5k chips to his name. The highest-finishing pro was Dan Heimiller, who accrued 556k chips, enough to land him in 4th place.
Other notables who made the top 10 were Robert Panitch (5th place), John D’Agostino, Harrison Gimbel and Chad Brown.
Hernandez absolutely dominated the
poker tournament from one end to the other. He took down quite a number of competitors, among them some “name” players as well. One of these players was Mike Sexton, who got his last chips into the middle on the flop of a hand which – unbeknownst to him, had already given his opponent quads. Hernandez snapped him off and promptly sent him packing.
The end of the day found 198 players with chips at the tables. Given that only the top 120 will get to take home any money, Day 3 will probably be all about the money bubble.
Byron Kaverman will return on Day 3, together with Matt Affleck, Joe Serock, Jared Jaffe and Noah Schwartz.
Jeff Madsen and Tony Dunst on the other hand were both bounced on Day 2, together with Matt Waxman and Matt Salsberg.
