Borgata Winter Poker Open – Day 16 Report

Day 16 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open, which went into the books on Wednesday, saw a single event play down to a winner, but this event – the $100k Deep Stack NL Holdem Re-entry one, turned out to be one of the largest of this year’s Series. A total of 1,002 players bellied up to its tables, looking to cut themselves as big a share of the $100k guarantee as possible.
At the end of 23 hours of rabid poker action, the player who walked away with the lion’s share of the spoils was Devon MacPherson. MacPherson collected the $42.7k top prize, together with the title and the bragging rights of course. The player MacPherson bested for the title was Nicholas Febbraio, who was thus forced to settle for $25.6k. Satish Surapaneni finished 3rd for $15.5k.

The first victim of the final table was Steve McManus, who ended up collecting $3.59k for his 9th place. McManus got his last chips into the middle preflop, on a Kh, 5h. The one he was up against, Nicholas Fabbraio, had pocket Js though and McManus failed to work off his handicap, hitting the rail.
Sergio Vigano was the next one to fade away. His 8th place was worth $5.2k. He put his tournament life onto the line with pocket 6s, but he got called by Surapneni with pocket 8s.
Jeremiah McKenna got his stack into the middle on an Ah, 7h. The one who called him was MacPherson, with an A,Qo. The board was a bunch of blanks and McKenna was done, taking home $6.9k.
He was followed to the rail by Mickey Olearte ($8.6k), and Joseph Langsan ($10.6k). The player whose elimination in 4th place set up the three-handed stage of the poker tournament was Ken Munroe. His reward was $13k.
