Borgata Winter Poker Open – Day 3 Report

The first event of the Borgata Winter Poker Open was an up and down, tumultuous and often chaotic affair, which has finally managed to clear the waters a little, on its 3rd day as the field played down to the final 27.
The player who finished the day with the largest stack was Allard Broedelet, who had more than 10.3 million chips bagged.
While Broedelet was the only one who managed to move above the 10 million chip mark, his lead over second place man Nick Guagenti wasn’t all that big. Guagenti finished with 9.7 million chips.
Other players who did well on Day 3 were Joel Gola (who finished with 5.65 million chips) and Kevin Choe (who had 5.1 million chips bagged).
Despite the high profile nature of the event, and despite the massive prize-pool involved, there were few notables left in the field by the end of Day 3. The highest-profile player who remained in contention was
online poker buff Darren Elias, who has been known to do well in live tournaments as well. Elias has some $1.5 million in live poker profits, and this event may indeed mean another respectable haul for him, so it is worth keeping an eye on him at this point, even though he only had 2.14 million chips bagged at the end of Day 3.
The beginning of the day saw a handful of notables still involved in the action, but by the end of it, they were all gone. Actor James Woods had busted out, together with Men Nguyen and Steve Dannenmann.
The official numbers concerning participation and the prize-pool were finally made public on Day 3: a total of 4,814 buy-ins went into the middle, resulting in a prize-pool of $2,325,835. The winner will take home more than $372k.
